About Us

Market Drayton Swimming Club is a friendly, competitive Swimming Club based at Market Drayton Swimming and Fitness Centre. We are affiliated to Swim England Shropshire and accredited to SwimMark.

Our team meets 5 days a week with a performance programme, which is designed to ensure our swimmers have the skills, behaviours and character attributes to perform at the highest level.

We have a long history helping swimmers to achieve County and Regional levels, together with opportunity for swimmers to be selected in the Shropshire County Development Programme.

Swim programmes are prepared and delivered by our professional team of coaches in our excellent facilities, our main training venue being a 25m 6 lane pool.

We look at taking swimmers from ASA stage 7 onwards. If you are interested in joining Market Drayton Swimming Club, we offer an initial assessment, followed by 3 free trials.

Market Drayton Swimming Club strives to provide a fun, safe, friendly community environment for swimmers and volunteers in Market Drayton and rural North Shropshire to achieve their own personal goals and aspirations, whether for fitness or competition. We are committed to providing high quality coaching and access to a competitive performance pathway enabling swimmers to reach their maximum potential, leading to County and Regional recognition.

Shropshire County Championships: 2024

It’s been a phenomenal 5 days of racing over 3 weekends. I am immensely proud of the group of swimmers who raced in black and white! We couldn’t have asked for anything more from you.

MDSC had an incredible amount of PBs, and one of the nicest things to see, was how focussed and driven you were to check what you needed before the race, and how desperate you were to find out after the race if you had achieved your time. That’s the determination and commitment I like to see. Well done to all the swimmers for all your PBs.

MDSC took 27 swimmers to the championships this year: Abi, Alexander, Archie, Arthur, Ava H, Ava L, Callum, Connor, George, Ginny, Isabella, Isla, Jake, Jasper, Jess, Lacie, Lewis, Logan, Mair, Molly, Noah, Owen, Paige, Sam, Scarlett, Sophie, Tom.

We’d like to say a huge congratulations to all those swimmers. Well done.

As it’s the County Championships, the Top 8 swimmers in the 50m and 100m heats, must swim in again the finals. We had 93 swimmers take part in the finals. Additionally, we had 54 swimmers finish in the Top 8 of the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m events. A fantastic total of 148 Top 8 finishes. An incredible number.

Drayton also had many podium finishes, with:

27 Gold
33 Silver
19 Bronze

A total of 79 county medals across the championships.

Lastly, swimmers accrue points for each Top 8 finish they achieve. With 8 points for 1st, 7 points for 2nd…. 1 point for 8th. The total number of points is used to decide the Top 3 boys and girls in each age group overall, and they are awarded trophies. Drayton had 5 swimmers achieve Top 3 overall, impressive in comparison:

Ava H - 2nd overall, 13 years

Paige - 3rd overall, 14 years

Scarlett - 2nd overall, 15 years

Tom - 3rd overall, 15 years

Connor - 1st overall, 15 years
